The Adventures of Rupert The Little Lost Bear ~ First Ever Rupert Book ~ 1921
CollectingCollectables.com is selling the first ever Rupert book by Mary Tourtel, The Adventures of Rupert The Little Lost Bear, first edition from 1921, which was published by Thomas Nelson and are the original stories taken from the Daily Express Newspaper where they originally appeared in 1920
The cream boards are profusely illustrated to the front with the early illustration of Rupert holding a hoop in his left paw and a stick in his right walking in the snow in his trademark checked trousers; and with other smaller illustrations including Rupert rubbing his eyes
The boards are in Very Good condition with the colours being bright and vivid but with slight darkening to the boards; edge wear; knocks to the corners and to the top and bottom of the spine; and an almost invisible neat repair to the paper spine at the top
There are 87 numbered pages (88 in total), each with an illustration and text underneath.
The pages are in overall Very Good condition with medium browning to the endpapers;
an inscription in pencil to the front free endpaper; and very slight and occasional
marks to the pages, which are tightly bound-
This is one of the best Rupert books you are likely to see, mainly because it is the first time that Rupert the Bear appeared in book form, it is so remarkably rare, and the condition is so incredibly desirable. If you are one of the many collectors of Rupert books and memorabilia, or just love to collect rare children’s illustrated books, then this has got to be the book for you.
It is interesting to note that ‘Collecting Children’s Books’ (2007) has valued this book at £950.00. It is our opinion that the value of this book will continue to rise in the years to come
