the pre-
The original red boards features an illustration of Rupert to the front with this trademark checked trousers reading a book with the caption underneath which reads: “There’s Lots of Fun Inside”. To the spine is another illustration of the early Rupert
The boards are in Very Good condition with marks to the front and back and with fading to the spine
There are 124 numbered pages which are in overall Good condition with an inscription to the front free endpaper (“This Book Belongs To” page); spotting; minor tears; and broken hinges which have made the book shaken but all pages are present; and one illustration to the end of the book that was left blank by Mary Tourtel with the words: “Colour This Carefully” has been neatly coloured in.
It is interesting to note that Collecting Children’s Books (2007) has valued this scarce book at £500.00
This very rare first Rupert annual is complete and in Good condition, with the binding able to be corrected by a professional binder or book restorer this is a highly attractive and desirable example for the Rupert and children’s illustrated book collector
